All hands on deck as Logos Hope
endorses Christian Party campaign
In the last week before the elections, news about the Logos Hope mercy ship docking in Cardiff Bay may have been interesting but not an obvious association. A week prior to the ships arrival Aggie Horne, prayer co-ordinator for the Christian Party of Wales wrote to those involved with the ship to see if they might allow us to hand out leaflets to visiting Christians. Pastor Dave Prichard contacted the Admiral independently and just a day after the ship docked, the Christian Party were delighted to have been given permission to come alongside the ship and set up stalls to spread the word about the elections and handout leaflets, posters and bookmarks.
The Christian Party estimate that of all the electorate address leaflets that come through peoples doors, possibly only 2% are actually read by the voters. The cost to the taxpayer would have been £500,000 and the cost to the environment would have been 5.5 tons of paper. We decided this time round, not to go this route. The Logos Hope however, was definitely an opportunity too good to miss. This provided an excellent God-given opportunity to spread the awareness across Wales for very little cost. Headed up by Pastor Dave Pritchard from Cardiff, plans were quickly in place to meet the demand for election materials for dozens of church groups travelling from all over Wales to tour the ship. 10,000 bookmarks were specially designed and printed in 48 hours and tables were in place on Saturday morning – 30th May.
Jeff Green, leader of the Christian Party was at the quayside as things got underway on Saturday and said ‘It was good to be amongst friends. We are using Gods own network to spread the message amongst His church.’ Christian Party members created quite a buzz and received a favourable response from people pouring in to tour the ship. The team will have a presence at the quayside at both ends of the ship throughout Sunday 31st May, Tuesday 2nd June and Wednesday 3rd June. God’s timing is perfect after all.
