Councillor Alan Craig
Christian Peoples Alliance Party Leader
Alan Craig is the Leader of the Christian Peoples Alliance. He also leads the CPA councillors on Newham Borough Council in London.
Alan is a passionate advocate for social justice and fairness for society's down-trodden and has been committed for many years to serving his community in London's East End, where he lives with his family. He speaks out against the ham-fisted politics of New Labour and works to empower all local people to stand up for what is right.
Alan was educated at Newcastle University and Manchester Business School. In a varied career, he has been chief executive of an international group of manufacturing companies employing 2,500 people. Converted to Christianity in his late 20s, Alan's faith became central to his life. He left business management, moved to the East End of London and went on to become live-in warden of an after-care home for young offenders on their release from prison. Subsequently, between 1995 and 2004, he was director of the Mayflower Family Centre in Canning Town - London's most deprived community according to the London Research Centre.
He was elected councillor for Canning Town South ward in May 2002, becoming the sole opposition member on Newham Council, facing 59 Labour councillors and a Labour executive Mayor!
With his wife Sally, stepsons Luke and Jake, and daughters Louise and Charley, Alan is dedicated to pursuing a vision for public life that is inspired by the life, death, resurrection and the teachings of Jesus Christ.
He speaks regularly on radio and television. His campaigning on Newham issues such as the proposed large casino, housing regeneration, Labour's attempts to wreck the community Queen's Market, the Excel Arms Fair and the proposed 'Olympics mega-mosque' has drawn the attention of London, national and international news media.
